WALK FAQs

 

When is the 20th Annual North Shore Cancer WALK?  
Sunday, June 20, 2010
7:30 a.m. Registration, Volunteer, Sponsor, and WALK Wear tents open at Salem Willows Park
8:30 a.m. WALK begins.  Along the route are water stops and entertainment.  The route closes at 11:30 a.m.
9:00-11:30 a.m. Refreshment tent is open

Where does the North Shore Cancer WALK begin?
The WALK begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at Salem Willows Park in Salem, MA

How long is the North Shore Cancer WALK?

The WALK is a 10K (6.2 miles) and winds through historic Salem.  The halfway point is at the O’Keefe Center at Salem State College.  Along the route there are water stops and live entertainment.  We offer shuttles along the way for “tired walkers”, and there is also a 3 mile shorter route if so desired.  If there is someone that doesn’t feel they can WALK at all – they can ride the Survivor Trolley – which boards at the START line at Salem Willows Park at 8:00 a.m.

How do I register for the North Shore Cancer WALK?

Mail in the registration form that is attached to your sponsor sheet or log on to: www.northshorecancerwalk.org to register, form a team, join an existing team and create your own customized online donation page.

Can I participate in both the WALK and the RUN?
Yes, but please make sure that you register for both events.

What do I get for registering for the WALK?

When you register for the WALK you will receive a 20th Anniversary pin, a poster and an additional sponsor sheet.

What is WALK Wear? And where can I get it?

WALK Wear are specially designed merchandise that is sold at the WALK.  This year’s merchandise consists of Men’s and Women’s 20th Anniversary WALK T-shirts and Men’s and Women’s Long-Sleeved T-shirts.  These items will be available for purchase at the WALK Wear tent.

Is there a donation minimum for the North Shore Cancer WALK?

The typical walker raises $100 to make a difference in the fight against cancer (example: ask 10 of your closest friends and/or family for $10 = $100).

Where does the money from the North Shore Cancer WALK go?

This year, most of the proceeds from the WALK will support the renovation of the inpatient Oncology Unit at NSMC Salem Hospital, ensuring that our cancer patients have access to the most up-to-date and sophisticated cancer care on the North Shore. Additionally, funds will continue to provide the Mass General/North Shore Cancer Center with new equipment and support programs directly benefiting patients such as wellness and research.

Where do I turn in my donations?

All Checks should be made out to North Shore CANCER WALK.  It’s best to turn in your donation BEFORE or AFTER WALK day in one of the following ways:
1.    Our website www.northshorecancerwalk.org
2.    Use the sponsor sheets provided and mail it to:
NSMC Development Office, ED Ground
81 Highland Avenue, Salem, MA 01970
You can also turn them in on WALK day to the registration tent which opens at 7:30 a.m.

How do I get to the North Shore Cancer WALK and RUN – Where should I park?
Parking Area: Parking is available at Shetland Park on Congress Street
Busses and shuttles will be available to walkers from the parking area at Shetland Park beginning at 7:00 a.m.  Return trips begin at 10:00 a.m. – please meet the busses past the starting line on Memorial Drive - this is a different location from the drop off.  The final trip back to Shetland Park departs Salem Willows Park at 11:30 a.m.

Directions to Parking at Shetland Park
From all cities, take 1A into Salem, MA, to the corner of Derby and Congress Streets. The parking attendants will show you where to park. Busses and shuttles will bring you to Salem Willows Park and back again after the WALK. Final trip back will be at 11:45 a.m.

Can I ride my bike or in-line skate at the North Shore Cancer WALK?
For safety’s sake, please leave in-line skates, scooters, and bikes at home.  Wheelchairs and strollers are welcome!
